5th ESF Coaching Conference

The European Squash Federation runs a conference roughly every two years. The last conference was in 2015 in Prague.

This year the conference was held at Meersquash in Hoofddorp near Amsterdam. The overall theme was “Training to compete – preparing your players for competition” and attracted 29 coaches from 16 nations. A highlight of the conference was definitely the attendance of Ashraf Hanafi, former Egyptian Junior National Coach, who gave an insight of why Egypt now is so successful in squash. It was the first time ever that we had a presenter from Egypt at a conference in Europe.

Apart from lectures and practical sessions covering the various aspects of the game (mental, physical, tactical,…) the social component is always key to the success of a conference. The opportunity to exchange views and experiences over a coffee or beer are just as valuable. A barbeque Saturday evening with good food and nice sunny weather added to a great weekend.

Many thanks to Tommy Berden and his team a Meersquash for providing a great venue and of course to Ronny “Trev” Vlassaks for making the local arrangements including numerous shuttle drives between hotel, venue and airport. Thanks also to Michael Khan, who oversaw the successful course of the event.
