Aug252023
European Squash saw two Champions crowned - first time for Victor Crouin and second for Nele Gilis
A hot day in Wroclaw started with two matches not being played. The playoffs for the 3rd position will be recorded as shared 3rd places for Emilia Soini, Finland/Marie Stephan, France and Nicolas Mueller/Dimitri Steinmann, both Switzerland. Due to the PSA event in Paris starting immediately after this event, players chose to avoid the risk of injury and get an extra day of recovery.
The women's final saw Nele Gilis cruise to a clear 3/0 win against Enora Villard in 33 minutes. It is the second EICC title for the Belgian after winning 2019 in Bucharest.
The French affair in the men's final featured Victor Crouin and Auguste Dussourd. After losing last year's final the top seed was determind to add this title to his collection. After winning the first game easily the match became a tight affair. Dussourd fought back well and forced Crouin into a fourth game. Again he needed to work hard to win 11/8 and claim his first EICC title.
The annual event will be held next year in the Spanish city of Cuenca near Madrid.
