European Team Championship Division 3 2017 Jersey

The European Team Championship Division 3 took place in Jersey from the 4th to 7th April, at the Jersey Squash & Racketball Club, directed by Nick Taylor.

There were 7 women’s teams with a total of 27 players and 14 men’s teams totaling 72 players.

In the women’s teams, Malta, Jersey, Gibraltar and Russia were new to the event this year (Jersey and Malta having missed last year’s event). In the men’s teams, Slovakia, Lithuania, Guernsey, Estonia and Russia were new competitors this year (Slovakia and Lithuania missed the 2016 event).

The Jersey Squash & Racketball club is located in a beautiful area of Jersey, within a sports centre also hosting golf and tennis located near the sea. There are 5 courts of which 1 was a full glass back. The hotel was walking distance from the club, which allowed for easy commuting back and forth.

Nick and his team did a great job organising the Championship, the atmosphere was amazing, with great team rivalries all done with sportsmanship and fair play.

In the women’s teams, Malta won having lost none of their matches and Russia came in 2nd close behind Malta having lost only 1 match (against Malta). Slovakia won in the men’s teams, beating top seed Croatia to reach the ½ finals and 2nd seed Poland in the finals.

A big thanks to everyone for making the European Team Championship Division 3 in Jersey such wonderful event. And that includes the players, coaches, referees, all the staff, drivers, parents, sponsors, European Squash Federation, Jersey Squash Association and last but definitely not least – the fans.

See you all next year, in Latvia!
